From Glacier Park Models website:

The EP&SW engines retained their unusual ( for the class ) step arrangement in the front until they were retired. And their Skyline jacketing was unusual too. as can be seen from this photo. Ex-EP&SW #4390 saw service all over the system. Of the six locomotives populating this class, only two are know to have been "streamlined". It is these two which GPM chose to model.

Though originally confined to the newly acquired EP&SW's territories because of their uncommon-on-the-S.P. Coal-fired boilers, all MT-2's had been converted to oil by 1930 and thence began their reputations as "Boomers", where they were eventually seen all over the system. "Proper" steps from pilot deck to running boards and strangely shaped skyline casings which hid their equally uncommon-on-the-S.P "Elesco" Feed Water Heaters are but a few of the details that set Class MT-2 apart from their sisters.
